SWAC - Champs Registration 100% Firm Deadline = 1/18/2018 11:59pm
Here it is...the much anticipated and fun to read individual champs details message!
You must sign-up for Champs (Division "B" and League "A") if you want to swim so be sure to read on.
This message contains a basic description of the champs meets, the time/location details for each champs meet, instructions about signing-up, and much detail about the champs meets and process. If you have additional questions that apply to your personal situation, please refer to the SAL operating procedures and the dual meet and champs primer found on the resources page (meet resources) of the team website. If these documents do not provide adequate clarification, contact Heather Yim at email@example.com
In our league there are two individual Championship meets (SWAC swimmers need to sign-up - like an invitational):
· Division Championships – commonly referred to as “B Champs” (for any swimmer in the division) and
· League Championships – commonly referred to as “A champs” (Swimmers must qualify for this meet - the top 18 swimmers in the league in each event)
· A swimmer may compete in no more than 3 individual and 2 relay events (5 events) at individual Championships
Division (B) Champs Saturday, January 27th:
- Boys and Girls at Upper Dublin HS: Warm-up 12:30 (SWAC warmup 12:55-1:20), Meet Start 1:30
League (A) Champs (MA approval) to be held at LaSalle University:
- Girls - Sunday 2/4: 7:45am Warm-up, 9:15am Meet Start
- Boys- Sunday 2/4: 12:45pm Warm-up, 2:15 Meet Start
Meet Informational flyers for division champs and league champs can be accessed on the champs page of the league website (we are the Central division).
SWAC swimmers need to register for the individual champs meets before the seed meeting so that our coaches know what each swimmer wants to swim (especially if they have qualified for As in more than 3 individual events). If you want to swim relays at champs you must indicate such during the registration process as described below.
The way the process works is that the coaches will get the list of all registrants. They will then attend the A Champs seed meeting and requested individual events for which the registrant qualifies for As will be accepted. After that, any requested individual events for which the registrant didn't qualify for As will be assigned to B champs.
The top 50 list is located on the SAL website, check this list for your swimmer to find out if they rank in the top 50 for the league in each event. Remember League (A) champs is for the top 18 swimmers (+ 2 alternates) for each event. Division (B) champs is for all swimmers who do NOT qualify for A champs. There may be swimmers who qualify for one individual event at A Champs. That swimmer can attend A Champs for the one individual event and attend B Champs for 2 individual events. When registering on the portal you can select a maximum of 3 individual events (this is for Champs A and/or B).
Once the coaches know who is attending each champs meet, relay teams will be assigned and then communicated to the team.
If you are signing up for champs and can only attend one or the other (i.e., you are available on the day of As but not Bs or visa versa) indicate this in the comment box on the portal registration and email your head coach-Gina for girls firstname.lastname@example.org or Kristina for boys email@example.com
The SWAC sign-up deadline is Thursday, January 18th at 11:59pm. This deadline is 100% firm – you will not, under any circumstances, be able to sign-up late for champs. If you are not sure what events you should pick, contact the coaches now.
Registration for A and B champs is available through the swimmer's portal (invitationals tab). You may register for events, relays, click on not attending, or do nothing. If you click on not attending or do nothing you will NOT be registered for champs. There is no payment needed. What is displayed is listed as boys or girls SAL champs. Use this for A champs and/or B champs.
REMEMBER: each swimmer planning to participate in any champs meet must sign-up for the meet through the portal. If a swimmer qualifies for league (A) champs but has not registered through the portal, the coach will give up that swimmer's league champs spot at the seed meeting and it is not possible to get it back.
The description of the meet that all swimmers (A and B champs) should choose on the portal when registering for champs is SAL Champs (under the SAL Invitationals tab). When registering for champs if you'd like to participate in a relay, you must click "yes" for the relay availability questions. You can indicate that you would like to swim the medley relay, the free relay, or both. If no selection is made, the coaches will assume that you are NOT available for any relays. Note that indicating relay availability does not guarantee you a relay spot. Again, the coaches will put together the fastest relays possible given the swimmers available.
For more information about these meets, refer to the the SAL operating procedures (can be found on the league website). The league site - http://www.suburbanaquatic.org
I know this may be confusing...the bottom line (action required) is this: IF YOUR SWIMMER WANTS TO SWIM ANY CHAMPS, SIMPLY REGISTER FOR THE DESIRED EVENTS USING THE SAL CHAMPS OPTION ON THE SAL INVITATIONALS TAB OF THE PORTAL BY THE DEADLINE and notify your coach if you can only attend one of the champs meets (either "A" or "B")
Additional Champs Points of Information:
Though there is no direct charge to you now for champs, the team's dues payment is calculated for the next season based on current year A and B champs individual and relay events. Thus, do not register for champs unless you are planning to attend as SWAC (and therefore eventually its participants) will pay more for every registered champs swim whether it's swum or not.
Our league has 4 divisions (each containing 6 teams for a total of 24 teams)
On January 27th there are 8 division champs meets. One for boys for each division and one for girls for each division.
The Division (B) champs that SWAC swimmers attend has competitors only from the Central division (CBAC, SWAC, Hatboro-Horsham, UDAC, Springfield, Colonial Community Aquatic).
There is only one League (A) champs meet for all 23 teams in the league.
Swimmers qualify for A champs during the season at league sanctioned meets (dual meets and SAL invitationals). The last opportunity to qualify for A champs is (aptly named) the Last Chance meet on January 20. Swimmers CANNOT qualify for A champs at division (B) champs. The top 50 list can be found on the league website http://www.suburbanaquatic.org under the Top Times tab
The Top 50 lists and psych sheets maintained by the league for each event can be used as a guideline for a swimmer’s placement in the league. These lists are not finalized until the A champs seed meeting for coaches (to be held January 23rd) but they are generally a fair guide before that.
